Mayweather calls for fight with Pacquiao next May

Floyd Mayweather Jr. says he’s ready to fight Manny Pacquiao next May in a long anticipated bout that would be the richest ever in boxing. Mayweather called for negotiations for the fight to be take place, though he warned Pacquiao not to expect to get anywhere near the money that he himself would make. "You lost twice and now you’re coming back begging for the same money?" Mayweather asked. "That’s not gonna happen." In an interview on the Showtime network from a fight card he was promoting in San Antonio, Mayweather for the first time called for the fight to happen and even gave a date — May 2. He claimed it wasn’t him but Pacquiao’s promoter, Bob Arum, who has been the main obstacle for not making the fight in the last five years. "Floyd Mayweather is not ducking or dodging any opponent," Mayweather said. "Bob Arum is stopping the fight. We have been trying to make this fight happen for many years behind the scene." Pacquiao turned the pressure up on Mayweather to make the fight last month, saying the time had come to put on the much anticipated bout. Arum said he had also been in talks with CBS Corp. chairman Les Moonves about the fight. CBS operates Showtime, which has Mayweather under contract for two more fights in May and September. Mayweather repeated his old charges about Pacquiao not wanting to do blood tests prior to the fight for it not happening five years ago. He also said he offered Pacquiao $40 million for a bout, but he refused. Mayweather, who hasn’t lost in 47 fights, said he was confident he could beat Pacquiao and eager to star in an extremely lucrative fight. "I know that he’s not on my level," Mayweather said. "The fan would love to see the fight. And, of course, I want to go out with a bang." No one knows how rich a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight would be, coming so late after it first should have happened in 2009. There are some who think both fighters have slipped some with advancing age, but there’s no doubt that the fight still holds tremendous appeal. It would likely gross at least $250 million, and Mayweather’s purse alone would be more than $100 million. Mayweather was not asked in the ringside interview about the murder-suicide of rapper Earl Warren Hayes and his wife in Los Angeles on Monday. Police spoke to Mayweather after the killings following media reports that he may have spoken to Hayes before he shot Stephanie Elyse Moseley and then took his own life in their apartment.

Peter Okoye Explains Why He Went Solo

Two weeks ago, Nutricima, makers of Olympic milk endorsed only Peter Okoye instead of the singing duo of him and his brother, Paul, since then tongues have been wagging, anxiety high and of course, speculations running wild with all sorts of permutations on why it should be so. Scandal hounds have sniffed another crack in the house of the Okoyes and felt another rift in the air as the one that nearly tore them apart months before. However, Peter, the more outspoken one of the music twins peaking at his unveiling debunked such development and explained why the company selected him alone. “ Music is like football. For example, if I play for Barcelona and I get endorsed by Nike, it doesn't mean the whole Barcelona team has been endorsed. This is about me and not me and Paul” he explained. “Among thousands or perhaps millions of people in the entertainment industry, I felt honoured to be chosen as the brand ambassador. The deal means a lot, not just to me but also to my fans. If a brand isn't worth it I have nothing to do with such a brand. The fact that I am ready to work with this brand is an indication of its top quality” he added in his inaugural speech as the brand ambassador of the brand

Nigeria at 54: Fitful growth of democratic institutions

As Nigeria celebrates 54th Independence anniversary today, divergent views have continued to greet the country’s achievements in various sectors since October 1, 1960 .While some describe the country as a toddler at 54 others, give kudos to the country’s organs of government for their achievement despite the short time democracy was allowed to thrive in the country. One of the bitter experiences the country went through few years after independence was the civil war. Between 1967 to 1970, the country fought a civil war that almost divided the country. The ability of the military government at that time to successfully prosecute the war without any part of the country seceding has been described as one of the achievements of General Yakubu Gowon (rtd) who was the military Head of State at that time. Nonetheless, the country has been facing numerous socio-economic and political development since then. At present, the protracted battle against terrorism has compounded the general insecurity in the country. Some Nigerians believe that despite apparent drawbacks, the country has not done too badly. Kola Jamodu, President, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) believes that despite some challenges facing the country, especially in the area of security, the country is not doing badly in all areas, particularly in communication. He stated that the country has made a significant progress in communication that must be appreciated by all, noting that even the erratic power supply in the country is being looked into by the government.

DB2PMedia : Drake raps about missing Rihanna in new single

Drake is obviously obsessed with Rihanna. Not only did he whine publicly -many times- when she dumped him many years ago after sleeping with him, he's talked about her a few times in his songs. The on again/off again couple, who are currently back on, spent sometime together earlier this year in Europe when Drake was on tour, but immediately they returned to LA, things were much different. Their time together obviously meant something to Drake because he rapped about it in his leaked new song 'Views From The 6', the title track for his next album. Drake talked about their time in Europe, how they stopped talking when they returned to LA, and even mentioned Rihanna's BFF Melissa Forde's name in the track. When Drake mentions Melissa in the track, a snippet of Rih talking is played! A man who is truly in love. Find the lyrics after the cut..

DB2PMedia News : After 21years, Ghost of June 12 Still Haunts Nigerians

Pro-democracy activists and apostles of June 12 will again march to the streets of Lagos and Nigeria at large. For them, this show of solidarity for June 12 annulled election has become a ritual. Almost 21years after, the ghost of June 12 still haunts Nigerians. This institutionalized festival has become an option for the activists and their allies to ventilate their ideals on what democracy should be. However, the immediate cause of June 12 centered on the then military government of General Ibrahim Babangida, who braved the consequence of his action to stop and annul an election widely believed to have been won by Chief Moshood Abiola of the defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP) without satisfactory explanations.

Blatter Wants New Racism Penelties

Fifa president Sepp Blatter wants to see more sporting sanctions used in the fight against racism. Blatter, 78, thinks points deductions would have more of an impact than making teams play behind closed doors. 'Sporting sanctions are the only effective punishment,' he said. 'It has to cause the clubs real hurt otherwise nothing will change. 'The troublemakers must be punished and it is clear to me that clubs are responsible for the hooligans.' Ukraine were ordered by Fifa to play a World Cup qualifier against Poland in an empty stadium after fans made monkey chants and performed Nazi salutes. The punishment was subsequently imposed on the 2018 qualification campaign following an unsuccessful appeal by Ukraine Football Federation. Blatter, in his column for Fifa Weekly, wants 'drastic and severe' sanctions for racism but admitted that 'football without a crowd is like a concert without sound'. He also believes stadium closures 'represent a disproportionately collective punishment' and is against excluding innocent fans of opposing teams. Fifa's disciplinary code punishes racism by a warning for a first offence and then more serious sanctions such as stadium closures, points deductions or even expulsion from competitions for further offences.

South Africa’s Former President Nelson Mandela Left An Estate Valued At More Than 46m Rand ($4.13m; £2.53m), The Executors Of His Will Have Revealed.

The Mandela family trust will receive $130,000, plus royalties. Others to benefit include the governing ANC, personal staff and several schools. Mr Mandela’s third wife, Graca Machel, may waive her claims to the estate, the executors said, although she is entitled to half of it. The former president who died on December 5th 2013 left behind an estate that includes an upmarket house in Johannesburg, a modest dwelling in his rural Eastern Cape home province and royalties from book sales, including his autobiography Long Walk to Freedom. Executor Justice Dikgang Moseneke said he was “not aware of any contest” to the 40-page Will. Speaking at the Nelson Mandela Foundation in Johannesburg, Mr Moseneke said some of the estate would be split between three trusts set up by Mr Mandela, including a family trust designed to provide for his more than 30 children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Schools the former president attended are due to receive 100,000 rand each, as are Wits and Fort Hare Universities, for bursaries and scholarships. The family trust will receive 1.5m rand, plus royalties. The ANC will also receive some royalties, to be used at the discretion of the party’s executive committee, to spread information about the principles and policies of the ANC, particularly about reconciliation. Mr Mandela’s children each received $300,000 in loans during his lifetime and will have that debt scrapped if it has not been repaid. Close personal staff, including long-time personal aide Zelda la Grange, each get 50,000 rand. The home in Houghton, Johannesburg where Mandela died on December 5 will be used by the family of his deceased son Makgatho. “It is my wish that it should also serve as a place of gathering of the Mandela family in order to maintain its unity long after my death,” the former statesman wrote. The mood of the Mandela family when the Will was read was “charged with emotions, but it went well,” said the executor, who added that the Mandela family were “well pleased” by his Will. Despite this, there are fears the Will could set off another round of squabbling among members of his large and factious family. Justice Moseneke, who is also deputy head of South Africa’s Constitutional Court, said there was a 90-day period in which the Will can be contested. The Will was first written in 2004 and last amended in 2008.
